ULO: Unidentified Lying Objects

2024

30 prints, image size 14 x 21 cm

This project is an in-situ photographic documentation of objects discovered in barranco (ravine) de le Crebrantá and its vicinity on the outskirts of Muro de Alcoy, Spain. The ravine is a part of Serra de Mariola nature park, however some specific areas of it have been accumulating various objects dumped by the locals.

Driven by my interest in the ambiguity of blind spots, I explored the ravine by foot during golden hours of late summer – early autumn 2024. I approached this site as an area for potential treasure hunt: treasure not in a monetary sense, but in an aesthetic, cultural and anthropological one. From the myriads of objects that I discovered I chose to photograph those that resonated mystery, whose original purpose, shape and even organic/non-organic origin I could not identify.

The series reveals a hidden story of the local society: to the people living in Muro de Alcoy these objects do not exist anymore, they are left behind, forgotten, abandoned. To me they represent the impact of human activity on a landscape over time.
